The Vassar women's soccer team capitalized on a free kick opportunity in the 84th minute to edge St. Lawrence 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in Poughkeepsie. After splitting the Liberty League weekend, the Saints are now 9-5-1 overall and 2-3-1 against conference teams.

The teams very even throughout the contest, with St. Lawrence edging the Brewers in shots 8-7, while both recorded four shots on goal.

"It was a very hard fought game and I was proud of our effort," Head Coach Franco Bari said. "The team really left it all on the field today. It's unfortunate that we didn't get the result we were looking for, as we created a good amount of chances and I really couldn't ask more of the team."

The Brewers snapped the scoreless tie when Katie Voegtlin played a free kick to Jessica Schwed who then crossed the ball into the box to teammate Lucy Brainerd, who one-timed a shot behind Kelsey West to help her team to the win.

West finished with three saves for the Saints, while Emma Nichols made four stops in the win for Vassar.

"The league is still open and at this point we will be focusing on Skidmore," Bari said.
