The St. Lawrence University Women's Basketball team led for nearly the entire game but a pair of 3-pointers in the last two minutes of the game gave RIT a late lead and the Tigers held on for a 61-59 victory Friday night in a Liberty League matchup at Clark Gymnasium in Rochester.
Lauren Quattrocchi and Cara Waterson scored five points each as the Saints (15-7 overall, 8-5 Liberty League) jumped out to a 13-10 lead.
In the second quarter, the Saints continued their hot shooting and took a 37-32 lead into the halftime intermission. St. Lawrence connected on more than 50% of their shots in the first 20 minutes.
Each team cooled off and scored 11 points apiece in the third quarter and the teams headed to the fourth quarter with St. Lawrence holding a 48-43 lead.
RIT (18-4, 11-2) rallied in the fourth quarter and took a lead with two minutes to play and added to the lead 50 seconds later with another long-range jumper and a 58-54 lead.
Despite missing a pair of late free throws, the Saints had a last-second shot blocked and RIT escaped with the victory.
Caroline Dalton led the Saints with 13 points and eight rebounds while Quattrocchi added 12 points and five assists. Waterson finished with nine points and Ellie Gonyeau added eight points for the Saints.
St. Lawrence will continue the weekend road trip with a 2 pm matchup at William Smith Saturday.
