POTSDAM, N.Y.- The SUNY Potsdam swimming and diving teams were swept by Oswego State Saturday afternoon. The men were defeated 166-107 and the women fell 156-100.
Senior Tyler Zapisek (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesse) led the men with two solo victories and a relay win. Zapisek took the W in the 100 and 200 Butterfly with times of 53.93 and 2:10.94, respectively. He then teamed with sophomore Jacob Van De Valk (Genoa, N.Y./Southern Cayuga), senior Chris Carlini (Endwell, N.Y./Maine-Endwell) and junior Ricky Blackburn (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) to touch the wall first in the 400 Medley Relay (3:46.66). Van De Valk and senior Delvyne Santiago (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) each got solo wins for the Bears. Santiago raced to a win in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:41.84 and Van De Valk finished first in the 200 IM (2:12.39).
Sophomore Emily Gulitti (Kingston, N.Y./Kingston) led the women with a solo and relay win. Gulitti grabbed the win the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:24.96. Then teamed with junior Kira Wood (Hopewell, N.Y./John Jay), freshman Hallie Marquart (Geneva, N.Y./Geneva) and junior Jennifer Yeager (Greene, N.Y./Greene) to take the 200 Free relay (1:50.49). Sophomore diver Darien Frederick (Clayton, N.Y./Thousand Islands) closed out the first place finishes with a victory in the one-meter dive with a score of 193.15.
Potsdam will have a couple weeks off from competition before the Bears head to Erie Community College in Buffalo, N.Y. to battle in the SUNYAC Championships.
