Lakers remain undefeated, top Saints men 68-50

Four Lakers recorded double digits as Oswego State posted a 68-50 win over the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team in non-conference action on Friday evening in Oswego, New York.

First-year Luke Hicks, who shot 5-for-13 from the floor and 2-for-6 from the arc, led the Saints with 15 points, while Riley Naclerio, Ben Crawford, Dom DeRegis and Chris Miner all finished with six points. Crawford led the Saints with seven rebounds, while Naclerio and Adeleke Karera each grabbed six.

Oswego State, who received 23 votes in the latest D3hoops.com poll, kicked off the first half with eight straight points, but the Saints hung around tying the game at 14 with 8:37 remaining in the half.

The Lakers pushed their lead to 25-18 with a 3-pointer from Quinn Carey with under five minutes to go. The Scarlet and Brown pushed back, battling within eight points to end the first half.

At the break, the Lakers shot 41 percent from the floor to the Saints' 37 percent.

A jumper and the end one from Hicks closed the Saints gap to just five points to open the second half, but a 3-pointer from Brandon Gartland gave the Lakers back their double-digit lead over the Saints.

Gartland scored again, giving Oswego State a 16-point lead with 12:45 to play in the half and the Lakers maintained their advantage through the second to seal the win.

Gartland led the Lakers with 23 points, six rebounds and six assists, shooting 9-for-17 from the floor and 4-for-9 from the arc. Joe Sullivan ranked second on the Lakers' squad with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Quinn Carey and Tyler Pierre added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

The Lakers shot a combined 43.3 percent from the floor to the Saints' 38 percent.

With the loss, the Saints fell to 5-5 on the season, while the Lakers improved to 9-0 overall.

The Saints will return from winter break to host Bard and Vassar on January 4 and 5, respectively. Game times are set for 7 p.m. on Friday and 4 p.m. on Saturday.
