The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team's second-half comeback fell short, as Oswego's Sean Michele made four clutch free throws to seal the a 62-52 win for the Lakers in Friday's non-conference match-up in Oswego, NY.
Oswego led by as many as 19 points and improved to 8-1, 2-1 SUNYAC with the victory. Meanwhile, St. Lawrence fell to 2-6 on the season and was led by sophomore Brady Condlin and first-year student Matt McTague, who recorded 14 and 13 points, respectively.
The Lakers, who led 31-20 at the half, went on a 10-0 run early in the second stanza to gain a 49-31 lead. Trailing by 19 points, the Saints went on a 15-2 run to narrow the deficit to 58-52 with 2:30 left in the contest. Condlin and McTague scored 13 of St. Lawrence's 15 points during the comeback, giving the Saints hope late.
The Lakers, however, locked down on defense to hold the Saints scoreless and Michele made all four free throws to push the lead back to 10 and seal the 62-52 win.
The Saints will take on Brockport tomorrow afternoon in a non-conference road game before opening up Liberty League play on Tuesday, January 8, hosting Skidmore.
