Lady Saints down Engineers tennis team, 8-1

The St. Lawrence University women's tennis team, ranked No. 16 in the Northeast, improved to 11-2 as it defeated Liberty League opponent Rensselaer by the score of 8-1 on Sunday at the Sammis Tennis Courts.

The Saints swept singles play, with senior Hillary Drewry and first-year student Elkie Vandenbeemt leading the way with victories at No. 1 (6-0,6-1) and No. 2 (6-1,6-2), respectively. First-year student Oliva Arroyo and junior Elizabeth Geer earned wins at No. 3 (6-4,6-1) and No.4 (6-1, 6-3), while junior Shannon Murphy and first-year student Anna Young rounded out singles action with victories at No. 5 (6-1,6-3) and No. 6 (6-7(3),6-1,(10-5)).

Drewry and Vandenbeemt beat Amanda Alexander and Casey Olsen at No.1 doubles, 8-2, while Geer and Murphy won at No. 2, 8-4. Katrina Bohnherst and Brianna Dickie earned the lone point for the Engineers with an 8-4 win over Arroyo and Young.
