Midway through the third period, sophomore Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) connected for the game-winner as the Clarkson University Women’s Hockey team opened up a four-game road trip with a 2-1 ECAC Hockey victory at Princeton on Saturday night.
The Golden Knights, who have won five straight, improved their record to 19-7-5 overall and own a third-place 13-4-2 ECAC Hockey mark. Clarkson, which is unbeaten in its last six games (5-0-1) is just one point out of second in the conference standings with three games remaining in the regular season. The Green and Gold play a 4:00 p.m. game at Quinnipiac on Saturday.
After a scoreless first period at Princeton (10-12-4, 8-9-2), the Knights took the initial lead on an unassisted goal by senior Kali Gillanders (Kyle, SASK) for her first goal of the season at 2:09 of the middle frame.
The Tigers came back to tie with a goal by Brianna Leahy at 8:33 of the period.
Styner lifted Clarkson to the victory with her fifth goal of the season, finishing off an assist by junior defenseman Hailey Wood (Lethbridge, ALB) at 10:14 of the third. Styner has at least one point in each of the last four games, while Wood extended her point-scoring streak to five games.
Princeton held a slim 25-24 advantage in shots. Sophomore Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) made 24 saves for the Knights. Both teams were 0-of-4 on the power play.
