FAIRFIELD, CONN.—The SUNY Potsdam women’s hockey team (11-8-3) rallied from a 3-1 deficit to get its single season record 11th win with a 5-3 victory over Division I Sacred Heart (9-16-1) in a non-conference matchup on Friday night. Senior defenseman Breanna Roy and sophomore forward Jenn Crawford each scored twice for the Bears.

Roy gave Potsdam a 1-0 lead with a laser from the point at 11:57 of the first period. Potsdam outshot the Pioneers 16-9 in the opening stanza, but couldn’t add to the lead. The Bears took the 1-0 advantage into the first intermission.

The Pioneers scored three unanswered goals in the second period to grab a 3-1. Maura Leahy tied the game just 1:15 into the period. Nicole Palazzo put Sacred Heart in front at 13:36 and then struck again at 18:47.

The Bears rallied big in the third period. Senior assistant captain Caitlin Manahan closed the gap to 3-2 at the 4:04 mark with an assist from junior forward Katie Komsa. Nearly seven minutes later on the power play, Crawford evened the game at 3-3 with helpers from freshman forward Izzy Fayerman and sophomore assistant captain Brittany Lucky. Roy notched the eventual game-winner with her second at 14:39. Freshman forward Emilee Hazelden assisted on the play. Crawford then put the game away with an unassisted goal with 1:09 remaining for the 5-3 win.

Sophomore goalie Jen Conophy made 24 saves to earn her seventh win of the season for Potsdam. Alexius Schutt stopped 32 shots for the Pioneers. The Bears were 1-5 on the man advantage and Sacred Heart was 0-4.

"It was just another solid effort tonight," said Potsdam Head Coach Jay Green. "We were down to just 11 skaters (non-goalies) due to injuries and illness, but we just kept fighting."

The Bears have already clinched a playoff spot and await the outcome of the Chatham-Neumann contests tomorrow and Sunday. If Chatham takes one of four points from Neumann, the Bears will finish fifth and travel to Oswego for a first round playoff game on Sat., Feb. 25. If Neumann sweeps Chatham, the Potsdam will finish sixth and travel to Elmira next Saturday.

The Bears close out the regular season tomorrow at 2 p.m. with another game against the Pioneers.
