POTSDAM, N.Y. – The SUNY Potsdam women's basketball team (1-12) fell in their non-conference game versus Hamilton College (7-8) 62-54 Tuesday evening. Junior forward Jessica Kouzan and sophomore forward Bailey Weigel each led the Bears with 15 points.

Hamilton shot out to a quick 9-3 lead within the first five minutes of the contest. Senior guard Madie Harlem set the tone with a quick three pointer and a layup. Weigel put the Bears on the board at the 19:07 mark with a pair of free throws. The sophomore then cut the gap to two, beating the shot clock with a basket in the paint. A big three-point basket by Kouzan and two free throws by Weigel gave the Bears their first lead of the night with 6:26 remaining. The Continentals immediately responded as junior guard Dani Feigin drained a bucket from beyond the arc to reclaim the advantage. Hamilton held off Bears behind a Harlem three pointer to lead 26-20 going into the half.

The Continentals used the momentum from the first half to spark an early 6-0 run to start the final stanza. Potsdam slowly chipped away at the lead as back-to-back three point baskets by senior guard Katy Briedis and junior guard Chenice Russell brought the Bears within five at the 12:02 mark. Both teams exchanged baskets for six minutes. The Bears started to gain some momentum when junior guard Hannah Kmiecinski hit a three pointer to cap off a 6-0 run with 5:15 remaining. However, a late 10-0 spurt by Hamilton with 2:28 left in the half secured the 62-54 win.

Potsdam shot 49% from the floor and 58% from beyond the arc. Hamilton held the advantage in rebounds with 41 to the Bears' 30. Russell was the next top scorer with six points and four boards.

Harlem led the Continentals with 18 points and eight rebounds. Senior forward Eliza Howe finished with 14 points. Feigin contributed 13 points and freshman forward Samantha Graber totaled 12 points.

Potsdam returns to action Friday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. versus Oneonta State in Welsh Gymnasium.
