CANTON -- The 2017 Summer Sunset Series wrapped up another season Aug. 8, a perfect, sunny evening with 299 people completing the one-mile or 5k courses, and a few did both. 24 of the finishers were new to the series.

Kyle Fulk and Matthew Wilber led the 5k race with a time of 16:55. Jon Ignatowski placed second in 17:44 and Connor Fulk was third clocking 17:52.

Leah Livernois was the first female finisher, with a 2017 series best time of 18:59. Sydney Levison was second in 19:23 and Maria Ricalton was third with a time of 19:31. Leaders in the 1-mile fun run were Elli Dane at 6:46, Pere Dane in 6:58, and Owen Clark, who crossed the line in 7:07.

Those completing all three races in the summer season, numbering 220, earned T-shirts for the achievement.

Next year, the 39th annual Summer Sunset 5K Series races will also be held the second Tuesdays of June, July and August.

Dates for the 2018 Summer Sunset Series are June 12, July 10t and Aug. 14. Registration and race start are at the J-lot/Intermural field on the St. Lawrence University campus in Canton.

This winter’s races, the the 38th annual Frozen Foote Series of four four-mile races begins Dec. 9, 2017. The other dates are Jan. 13, Feb. 10 and March 10, 2018. Registration and race start line are at Appleton Arena at SLU. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. and race time is 10:30 a.m.
