The goals came early, often, and all throughout the game as 14 different players scored and another eight players recorded an assist as the SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse team thumped Alfred State 21-1 on Saturday afternoon in a home contest that was moved to Clarkson University's Hantz Turf Field because of icy conditions at Potsdam's Maxcy Turf Field.

Potsdam's lead was cut to 2-1 on a goal by Alfred's Keegan Phalen in the early goings of the first quarter, but then the Bears poured it on with 19 unanswered goals.

Senior attacker Rob Kunz (Watertown, N.Y. / Immaculate Heart) scored a single-game career high with seven points (three goals and four assists). Kunz had previously had a pair of six-point games (April 20, 2013, vs. SUNY Geneseo and April 14, 2012, against Oneonta).

Sophomore attacker Ed Doherty (Amherst, N.Y. / Amherst) also put a career-high with three goals. Previously, Doherty has scored two goals on two occasions (at Kean University last March 27 and April 20 against SUNY Geneseo).

It was a big day for freshman on the Bears too as three different rookies all scored twice.

Among them were midfielder Casey Boulio (Carthage, N.Y. / Carthage), attacker Matt Moran (Watertown, N.Y. / Immaculate Heart) and attacker Berkley Stone (Madison, Conn. / Daniel Hand).

Senior goaltender Ryan Duffy (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) played just the first quarter and made a save to pick up the win and improve to 2-0.

Potsdam (2-0) won in all phases of the game. The Bears held a 53-10 shots and 32-5 shots on goal advantage. It was highly efficient in clearing the ball (16-of-17) and picked up a plus 18 advantage in gaining groundballs (47-29).

The Bears were also 2-for-4 on the extra man advantage while the Pioneers (0-3) was 0-for-3 in such circumstances.

Potsdam will next play at Clarkson University on Tuesday at 4 p.m. in a nonconference tilt.
