The Clarkson University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Matt Konecnik as the top assistant coach for the Golden Knights' men's soccer program for the 2012-13 school year.
Konecnik replaces Ian Fairlie, who served as the assistant coach for the past three seasons.
A three-time Liberty League All-Academic member, Konecnik played in 36 games with 22 starts over his four-year career for the Golden Knights. Konecnik, who graduated this past spring with a degree in civil engineering, missed this past season with a leg injury and had a year left of eligibility, but chose instead to join the coaching staff.
Konecnik, a native of Waterford, NY, made 15 starts in 16 games as a junior in 2010 and was named a Liberty League All-Star Honorable Mention as a back, recording his first career point and providing a steadying influence on defense.
The Golden Knights open the 2012 season on August 31st when they host the annual North Country Invitational.
