Kohlasch and Thomas perfect in St. Lawrence women's hoops win over RIT

Kaelyn Kohlasch scored nine of her 15 points in the second half and Sarah Thomas added 12 points on a perfect 4-for-4 day from the field leading the St. Lawrence University Women's Basketball team to a 65-57 victory over RIT Saturday to complete a weekend sweep of Liberty League games at Burkman Gymnasium in Canton.

After the teams were tied at 26-26 at halftime, Thomas started the second half with a 3-pointer and Kohlasch started the fourth quarter with a pair of jumpers to set the tone for the Saints (10-3 overall, 4-1 Liberty League).

St. Lawrence built a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter as Jenny Scudder compelted a three-point play to put the Saints up 12 points at 51-39.

RIT (10-4, 3-2) rallied with an 8-0 run to trim the lead before Lauren Quattrocchi hit a driving layup to stop the run.

With 2:52 left to play, the Tigers had cut the lead to two points at 53-51 before Kohlasch scored four straight points with a pair of free throws and a baseline layup as the Saints regained control at 57-51 with 1:50 left.

The teams traded free throws back and forth but an RIT 3-pointer with 48 seconds left trimmed the lead to a single point at 58-57.

St. Lawrence moved up the court and Quattrocchi found Kohlasch for a jumper and a three-point lead with 34 seconds remaining.

Cara Waterson scored a fastbreak layup off a turnover to extend the lead to five points and Thomas finished the game with a pair of free throws.

Kohlasch led the Saints with a season-high 15 points on 6-for-6 shooting from the field and Quattrocchi added 14 points and eight assists. Thomas added a career-best 12 points going 4-for-4 from the field including 2-2 from 3-point range and 2-for-2 from the line. Ellie Gonyeau grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Scudder added nine points and Waterson eight for the Saints.

St. Lawrence will have a short break before playing SUNY Canton Monday night in a non-conference matchup in Burkman Gymnasium at 7 pm.
