Elmira, NY - A 1-1 tie against Elmira College ended the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team's four-game winning streak, but the Golden Knights remained unbeaten thanks to a goal from freshman Anna Demasi (Colchester, VT) in the 74th minute.
Clarkson moved to 4-0-1 on the season and will play against St. John Fisher College at 1:00 pm on Sunday before returning home to open the Liberty League season against William Smith next Saturday.
The two teams combined for 19 shots in the first half on Elmira's small field, but neither team could get one into the goal in the first 45 minutes. The Soaring Eagles ended Clarkson's season-long shutout streak of over 410 minutes when Emily Karpinski gathered in a rebound off a save in the 54th minute, giving Elmira a 1-0 lead.
Twenty minutes later, freshman Anna Demasi helped ensure Clarkson's unbeaten streak would remain intact. A cross headed into the box and was deflected by Elmira's Megan Lowe, but Demasi was able to pick up the loose ball and deposit the ball into the Elmira net at 73:50.
Clarkson held a 17-10 edge in shots over the final 65 minutes and had a 25-21 lead overall. The two teams combined for just five corner kick opportunities, with the Knights having three chances. Sophomore goalkeeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY) had 14 saves for Clarkson, while Lowe made 13 stops.
