Houghton, NY – Limited scoring opportunities plagued the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team as they fell to the Houghton Highlanders 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Knights will next host Elmira College on Friday at Hantz Turf Field at 4:30 pm while Houghton next hosts Geneseo State on Wednesday.
The Highlanders outshot the Knights 7-2 in the first half, but neither team could get on the board. Nikki Carfi (Liverpool, NY) took both attempts for the Knights, missing wide and missing high early in the half. Goalkeeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY) stopped four shots to preserve a scoreless half.
Houghton picked up the pressure in the second half, outshooting the Knights 13-2. The Highlanders took the lead in the 54th minute when Atalie Fite gathered a rebound and beat Kenline for the only goal of the game. Carfi again missed wide in the 80th minute and was the only Golden Knight to record a shot on the afternoon.
Kenline recorded 11 saves in the losing effort while Shawna Spring stopped on ball for the win. This was the third straight 1-0 game the Golden Knights have played, going 1-2 over that stretch.
