Potsdam, NY – Two second-half goals off corner kicks doomed the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team as the Golden Knights lost a 3-0 decision to Ithaca College in the Liberty League opener at Hantz Turf Field.

The Golden Knights dropped to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in league games, while Ithaca moved to 7-0-1 and 1-0-0 in conference games. Clarkson heads to Skidmore College for a game on Tuesday afternoon.

Ithaca got on the scoreboard early, somewhat catching the Knights on their heels. On a direct kick on the opposite side of the center line, the Bombers chipped a long pass into the corner. Ally Christman then carried the ball down into the penalty area and Clarkson goalkeeper Elyse Green came out to defend a possible shot, but Christman passed a hard groundball to the opposite side of the box, finding Alex Epifani, who knocked it in at 16:11.

The Bombers put the game away midway through the second half, scoring off two corner kick opportunities. The first came at 57:33 when a corner chance was crossed into the box. Ithaca got the first head on the ball, but Clarkson got the next header and pushed ball out to the top of the box. However, Gabriella Mihale rushed over to the spot where the ball was cleared and hit the volleyball out of the air with a hard left foot just out of the reach of Green. A little over 10 minutes later, another corner kick was sent out to Alex Epifani and she lifted a cross into the six-yard box, finding the head of Sarah Pirnie for a flick to the opposite side of the goal.

Ithaca led Clarkson in shots 11-6 and had a 7-2 edge in corner kicks. Elyse Green made four saves for the Knights and Sara Jakobsze made three stops for the Bombers.
