Potsdam, NY – Although the defense limited scoring opportunities, the Clarkson University Women's Soccer fell to the #17 Skidmore College Thoroughbreds 3-0 on a sunny Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.
The Golden Knights (4-9-0, 0-4 Liberty League) will stay home to take on Bard College next Friday at 4:00 pm at Hantz Turf Field. The Thoroughbreds (9-0-2, 4-0 Liberty League) will travel to take on RIT next Friday.
Attempting only one shot in the first half, Skidmore made it count in the 11th minute when Caty Sheridan found Christine Bellotti open in the middle of the field, and Bellotti kicked a hard ground ball to the right of Clarkson goalkeeper Sierra Spring (Saratoga Springs, NY) to give the Thoroughbreds the 1-0 lead.
The Clarkson backline held strong for the rest of the period, as most of the first half was played in the middle third of the field. Lauren Flynn (Andover, MA) attempted two shots late in the period, but one was blocked and a second went wide of the net.
A turnover led to a score in the 48th minute for Skidmore as Arena Manning took the ball deep in Clarkson territory and beat Spring one-on-one with a ground ball to the left side of the net from 10 yards out to give the Thoroughbreds a 2-0 lead.
A relentless attack from Skidmore was handled well for most of the period by the Green and Gold, as Spring recorded seven saves on the day, all of which came in the second half, in her second start of the season. Skidmore added a third goal in traffic late in the period to reach the final of 3-0.
