An early goal would prove to be the game-winner as the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team fell on the road 1-0 to Vassar.
Clarkson's record now stands at 5-8-1 with a 1-3-1 Liberty League record while Vassar is now 6-4-2 and 1-1-2 in conference.
Vassar came into the game looking for their first conference win and started strong right out of the gate. Just seven minutes in, this hunger would pay off as they broke the deadlock. A Brewer corner kick found the head of Kelsey Hamm who headed it to Chloe Wheeler. Wheeler's deep shot found the back of the Clarkson net to put Vassar up 1-0.
The score would remain 1-0 until halftime. Clarkson came out strong in the second half, but a Vassar defense that has only allowed 11 goals this year was able to keep the Golden Knights off the scoreboard. Overall, the Brewers held a 13-6 advantage in shots and earned five corner kick's to Clarkson's one. Clarkson senior keeper Kim Kenline (Akron, N.Y.) finished the game with five saves for the Green and Gold while her Vassar counterpart, Emma Nichols, finished with two stops.
Clarkson will travel to Bard tomorrow for a 2:00 pm game while Vassar will host St. Lawrence tomorrow at 2.
