Potsdam, NY – A pair of second half goals sunk the Clarkson University Women's Soccer team as they lost to the St. John Fisher College Cardinals 2-0 in the rain on Saturday afternoon at Hantz Turf Field.
The Golden Knights fall to 3-4-0 on the year and travel to take on Plattsburgh State Tuesday at 7:00 pm. The win moves the Cardinals to 3-5-0 on the season and they next host the University of Rochester on Tuesday.
Both squads felt each other out in the first half, each only managing three shots. Nikki Carfi (Liverpool, NY) had the only shot on net for the Knights in the first half while goalkeeper Kim Kenline (Akron, NY) recorded three saves. The Clarkson backline was able to keep the Cardinals' offense at bay for much of the period.
St. John Fisher came out quickly in the second half and broke onto the scoreboard in the 52nd minute. Jamie Alloco took the ball from near midfield and passed ahead to Alex Rohloff. Beating the defender to the right, Rohloff fired a ground ball to the far left corner of the net for the goal. Later in the 67th minute Rohloff would add an insurance goal as Chelsea Oberkrieser crossed a ball from the right corner right to Rohloff, who volleyed it out of the air and into the net to make the score 2-0.
Clarkson managed nine shots throughout the game, five coming from Carfi. St. John Fisher goalkeeper Brooke Seavitt recorded four saves in the winning effort. Kenline stopped five shots on the afternoon in the loss.
