Penn Yan, NY – Holding its opponents off the scoreboard for the final 17-plus minutes, the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team was able to rally from a two-goal deficit to claim a 10-8 victory over Keuka College in non-league action Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights evened their record at 1-1 on the season, while Keuka suffered a loss in its first game after having its opener postponed due to weather earlier in the week.

The Golden Knights offense produced three goals in a seven-minute span midway through the first half, and Clarkson enjoyed a 3-1 lead thanks to goals from freshman Ashley Flick (Watertown, NY) and Paige Fayette (Theresa, NY). Flick scored on a free-position shot at 20:24 to open the scoring and Fayette scored a pair, with one coming on an assist from sophomore Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) just 75 seconds apart a few minutes later. However, over the course of the final 11 minutes, Keuka built momentum heading into the second half. Taylor Smith scored from Maggie Bonafede at 10:44 and the duo combined for three unassisted goals down the stretch to lead the Storm to a 5-3 advantage at the half. Clarkson had edges in groundballs (15-12) and draw controls (5-4), but Keuka had a 13-10 lead in shots at the half.

In the second half, the two teams came out trading goals in a fast-paced first few minutes. Wright scored at 26:58 when Keuka reclaimed a two-goal advantage at 25:41, she scored again only 26 seconds later. With consecutive goals from Emma Oliver (Jericho, VT), Clarkson finally was able to knot the score up at 7-7 at the 17:54 mark, with the second score from Oliver being assisted by Wright. Once again, though, Keuka responded quickly and regained the lead 28 seconds after Oliver's game-tying goal with a score by Kaycee Maguire.

After that initial scoring surge that saw seven goals in less than 13 minutes, neither team could put together much offensively. Only six shots were taken in the next eight minutes until Clarkson tied the score up at 8-8 on the third goal of the game by Fayette, with another assist going to Wright, at 9:52. That goal seemed to spark something in the Knights in the latter minutes, as Ashley Flick scored on a free-position shot at 7:11, and was followed by a goal at 4:54 from Fayette. That offensive push proved enough as Clarkson's defense created turnovers and denied the Storm in close as the clock wound down.

Clarkson finished with a 28-23 edge in shots, including a 18-10 lead in the second half, a 13-7 advantage in draws, and a 27-23 lead in groundballs. Kara DiNatale (Auburn, NH) made eight saves. Fayette led Clarkson with four goals and also rounded up seven groundballs. Flick and Oliver each had a pair of goals and Wright had a team-best five points on two goals and three assists. For Keuka, Taylor Smith finished with four goals and five groundballs and Maggie Bonafede had two goals and two assists.
