Senior Katie VanDeValk (Baldwinsville, NY) scored a game-high five goals and classmate Alyssa Cristaldi (North Syracuse, NY) chipped in three goals and three assists as the Clarkson University Women’s Lacrosse team earned its second straight win on the road with a 13-8 victory at Oswego State on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Knights, who improved their record to 10-4 overall, return to action a week from Friday when they resume Liberty League play at the University of Rochester on April 26.
Clarkson jumped out to a 3-0 lead over Oswego (5-7) 10 minutes into the contest and built its lead to 8-2 at the break. The Knights scored five of the first six goals in the second half to hold a comfortable 13-3 advantage with 14:25 left to play.
The Knights outshot the Lakers 27-21, while both teams picked up 24 ground balls each.
Freshman Christine Wright (Watertown, NY) continued her solid play in her rookie campaign, recording two goals and two assists along with winning five draw controls. Seniors Nicole Kelly (Syracuse, NY), Kerrie Cline (Tuxedo, NY) and Noelle Miller (Hamburg, NY) rounded out the Clarkson goal scorers with one tally apiece.
Junior Kara DiNatale (Auburn, NY) gained the win in the Knights’ net with eight saves through 53 minutes of play. Freshman Stephanie Lynch (Baldwinsville, NY) posted one save over the final seven minutes.
Senior Jeannette Pendergast (Greenfield Center, NY), VanDeValk and Miller each picked up four ground balls.
Erannan Shattuck, Mackenzie Kjerstad and Becky Guess led Oswego with two goals apiece.
