Potsdam, NY – Though her impact was limited in the scoring column, senior Alyssia Marsal posted a huge game with 14 rebounds, seven assists and three steals to help lead the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to a convincing 69-48 victory over SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-1 on the season, their third straight victory. Potsdam dropped to 1-2 in the early going of 2016-17.

Both teams started slow in the early going, but a Madison Shea 3-pointer at the 3:58 mark of the first quarter kickstarted Clarkson's offense. Devin Sorell tossed in eight points in the final 90 seconds of the quarter, including a half-court buzzer beater that gave the Knights a double-digit lead (21-11). The two teams essentially played even in the second quarter, but again Clarkson got points in the waning seconds when Stephanie Grobe gathered an offensive rebounds and put the back up and in.

Sorell finished with 10 points in the first half, while Marsal had eight boards and four assists. Potsdam was led by Patti Dorgler's seven points.

Potsdam's Abbey Smith had to change jerseys at the break, and she carried the Bears back into the game. Smith recorded 14 of Potsdam's 18 points in the quarter, pulling the Bears back to within 10 (39-29). However, Clarkson was able to weather that barrage and maintained a double-figure lead the entire quarter. At the start of the fourth, a 10-1 run in the first three minutes extended the Clarkson lead to as many as 23 (62-39), and the Knights simply ran out the clock with their cushion.

Devin Sorell led the Golden Knights with 17 points, while Stephanie Grobe kicked in 14 points. Freshman Molly Stewart also hit double-figures and Madison Shea chipped in nine points, six rebounds and six assists. For Potsdam, Abbey Smith scored 15 of her 17 points in the second half.
