For the first time all season, the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team was on the losing end as the Golden Knights fell to Rensselaer 2-1 in ECAC Hockey action at Houston Field House in Troy, NY on Saturday afternoon.

Clarkson, which entered the weekend ranked fourth in the national polls, is now 10-1-2 overall this season and 1-1-2 in ECAC Hockey play, while Rensselaer improves to 4-5-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference.

The Golden Knights opened the scoring through junior assistant captain Cayley Mercer's 12th goal of the season. Clarkson's leading scorer broke the deadlock at 16:30 in the first period. Senior assistant captain Olivia Howe and sophomore Amanda Titus picked up assists on the goal. It was the fourth point of the weekend for Titus.

The Engineers tied the game at 12:43 in the second on a goal by Lindsey Hylwa. Rensselaer added a second goal at 12:49 when Mari Mankey scored a power-play goal. It was just the third extra-man goal that Clarkson has allowed all season.

As the clock was winding down, Clarkson peppered the Rensselaer goal with shots, but could not find the back of the net.

Clarkson finished with a 46-18 edge in shots. The Golden Knights failed to score on their three power-plays while allowing Rensselaer to score once in its eight extra man opportunities.

Clarkson sophomore goaltender Shea Tiley finished with 16 saves while Rensselaer shot stopper Larissa Salender made 45 stops.

The Green and Gold will try to get back in the win column on Tuesday when they play host to Syracuse at Cheel Arena.
