Hamden, CT – In a game featuring two of the top three goaltenders in the nation in goals-against average, the 8th-ranked Clarkson University Women's Hockey team prevailed on the road and handed the 5th-ranked Quinnipiac University Bobcats a 3-0 loss on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Golden Knights to 12-3-2 (5-2-1 ECAC Hockey) and caps off an impressive weekend as Clarkson outscored both opponents by a combined score of 10-0. The loss is only Quinnipiac's second on the season as they fall to 10-2-4 (3-2-3).

"We are really proud of the way the team played tonight against a tough opponent," stated Clarkson co-head coach Matt Desrosiers. "The attitude before the game and in the locker room was great; very focused but loose and confident. We are really coming together as team and playing hard for each other right now."

Senior goaltender Erica Howe (Ottawa, ONT) entered the game with a 1.08 goals-against average, good for third in the country. Quinnipiac's Chelsea Laden was first allowing only 0.94 goals per game prior to Saturday's contest. That changed early in the game, as the Green and Gold got on the scoreboard at the 11:22 mark in the opening period. Senior Jamie Lee Rattray (Kanata, ONT) took passes from classmate Vanessa Gagnon (St. Constant, QUE) and freshman Corie Jacobson (Warren, ONT) to put the Knights up 1-0.

The Bobcats outshot the Knights 12-5 in the first period, but Howe withstood the early test to give Clarkson the lead after 20 minutes.

Following the intermission, the Knights came out aggressively and outshot the Bobcats 12-3 in the second period. Having struggled lately on the power-play, Clarkson broke through to double their lead when Rattray added her second tally of the game at the 1:07 mark. Sophomore Erin Ambrose (Keswick, ONT) and senior captain Carly Mercer (Exeter, ONT) combined to set up Rattray, and both recorded their 13th assists on the season. The goal was Rattray's team-high 12th score, and she leads all Knights with 27 points.

Howe stood strong in net all game, stopping another eight shots in the third period, and the Clarkson power-play added a late goal to stretch the lead to 3-0. Ambrose scored her ninth goal on the year with assists from senior Brittany Styner (Calgary, ALB) and Carly Mercer, and put the Knights comfortably ahead.

Howe stopped all 23 shots she faced for her seventh shutout on the season, good for first in the nation, and put some room between herself and Laden, who is second in the nation with five shutouts.

Quinnipiac was unsuccessful on all five power-play opportunities and Clarkson capitalized twice on five attempts with the extra skater.

The Knights move into a tie for third place in the conference with 11 points, three back of ECAC Hockey leader Cornell. After a dominating performance all weekend, Clarkson will return home to play a two-game series with the University of North Dakota in two weekends. North Dakota is currently ranked fourth in the national polls.
