Goals from three different Golden Knights and another solid effort in the crease by sophomore Shea Tiley lifted the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team to a 3-1 victory over Syracuse in non-conference action in Central NY on Tuesday night.

Ranked fifth in the nation, Clarkson improves its record to 3-0-0. The Knights will look to continue their early season success with a home-and-home series vs. the Shannon MacAulay's first goal of the season was the game-winner in the Knights' 3-1 win at Syracuse - photo by Connor Koehler University of Vermont this weekend. The Knights travel to Burlington for a Friday night game against the Catamounts and then return home on Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. contest at Cheel Arena.

"We're happy to come away with a win tonight against a Syracuse team that worked hard and made us earn everything," said head coach Matt Desrosiers. "Shea had to make a few good saves early before we caught a break on our first goal to give us the lead. I thought our power play did a good job generating some quality chances and fortunately tonight we were able to score on a couple of those. I still think there are a few areas that we can continue to work on, but overall we are very happy with with the start to the season and the way the team is coming together."

The Knights led from the start at Syracuse, taking a 2-0 lead midway through the first period on goals by freshman Rhyen McGill and senior captain Shannon MacAulay. McGill started things off with her second collegiate tally, finishing off an assist from sophomore Amanda Titus at 10:04. Just over two minutes later MacAulay connected on the power play at 12:17 for her first goal of the season. Junior Genevieve Bannon and sophomore Brielle Bellerive were credited with the assists.

After a scoreless second period, the Orange (0-1-0) cut the deficit to 2-1 with a goal by Melissa Piacentini at 10:42 of the final frame.

The Knights, however, sealed their ninth straight win over Syracuse when ECAC Hockey Player of the Week, junior Cayley Mercer connected on the power play for her team-high third goal of the season with 1:38 remaining.

Clarkson outshot the Orange 37-23 and went 2-of-5 on the power play while killing off all three of Syracuse's man-advantage opportunities.

Tiley finished with 22 saves to improve her career record in the Clarkson goal to 27-11-3.
