Troy, NY - Five different players scored a goal and 10 different players recorded at least one point as the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team used a balanced attack to record a 5-1 victory over Rensselaer in ECAC Hockey play Friday night.

The sixth-ranked Golden Knights improved to 15-5-1 overall and moved to 6-3-0 in the ECAC, while the Engineers fell to 5-15-0 overall and 4-5-0 in league games. Clarkson looks to pick up more points in conference play when it takes on Union College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights dominated the opening minutes, keeping the Engineers without a shot on goal until nearly 11 minutes into the game, and just a few minutes later Clarkson was on the scoreboard. The Knights were putting pressure on the Engineers when the puck was poked out of the zone to the Clarkson end. Kassidy Sauve met the puck out near the slot and immediately sent a pass to T.T. Cianfarano. The graduate transfer took care of the rest, outmaneuvering the Engineers defense and taking a shot from the top of the slot, going to left corner over Lovisa Selander's stick side blocker at 14:11.

Clarkson held a 16-3 advantage in shots on goal in the first period, but it was over two more evenly played periods that the Knights would run away with the contest. Midway through the second period Clarkson put two more goals on the scoreboard, one coming on a 4-on-4 and the other on the power play. During the even-strength 4-on-4, Avery Mitchell took a shot and gathered the rebound, directing the puck behind the goal to Michaela Pejzlova. The junior then found Josiane Pozzebon at the top of the right circle, and the defender ripped a shot over the stick side blocker of Selander once again to put the Knights up 2-0 at 8:59. After the completion of the two roughing penalties, Clarkson found itself on the power play and took little time to record its third goal. Pozzebon sent a centering pass from behind the net through traffic to Kelly Mariani, where she converted her sixth goal of the season at the 11:00 mark.

The Engineers pulled back to within two with a power-play goal at the 8:04 mark as Jaimie Grigsby appeared ready to send a pass in front but instead went to the near-side post to make it 3-1. However, Clarkson would not allow any type of comeback. Five minutes after the RPI score, Emma Keenan ripped a shot from the point, again going to Selander's stick side for the score. The final goal of the game came on a short-handed breakaway at 16:39. Just 10 seconds into the Engineers power play, Cianfarano slapped the puck out of the zone by using the boards, where Elizabeth Giguere collected the puck, going more than half of the ice alone and finishing off a play with her backhand for an insurance score.

Clarkson finished with a 45-19 edge in shots on goal, with the Engineers blocking 23 shots to keep the tally from being more one-sided. Of the 10 players to record at least one point in the game for the Knights, only Pozzebon and Cianfarano scored twice, producing one goal and one assist apiece. Sauve made 10 saves before being relieved by Kia Castonguay, who notched eight assists and allowed the single score for the Engineers. Selander was busy for Rensselaer, making 40 saves on the night.
