Junior Cayley Mercer (Exeter, ONT) paced a production offensive effort by the Clarkson University Women's Hockey team with a two-goal outing and freshman Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) made 14 saves to record her first career shutout in the Golden Knights' 5-0 win at Providence College on Saturday night.
Clarkson, which improved to 2-1, faces off against the Friars again on Sunday afternoon beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Four different Knights scored goals and 10 players recorded at least one point in Clarkson's non-league win over the Hockey East foe.
Clarkson led 1-0 after the first on Mercer's opening goal of the night. The Knights built the lead to 3-0 after forty minutes on goals by junior captain Shannon MacAulay (Mt. Herbert, PEI) and sophomore Genevieve Bannon (Candiac, QUE).
Mercer scored her second of the game and fifth career tally early in the final frame and sophomore defenseman Corie Jacobson (Warren, ONT) closed out the scoring with her goal at 13-minute mark.
The Knights outshot Providence 33-14. Clarkson went 1-of-3 on the power play and killed off both Friar man-advantage opportunities.
Tiley made five first-period saves, four more in the middle frame and finished with five more stops over the final 20 minutes.
