Madison, NJ - Shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor and scoring 47 points in the second half, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team outscored the College of Staten Island by 15 points in the final 20 minutes to claim the Rose City Classic Tournament title with a 74-64 victory on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 2-0 on the season and will face Oswego State on Tuesday night in their home opener.

Clarkson jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the opening moments, but Staten Island found its offense and outscored the Knights 19-4 in the next eight minutes. The margin would hit as many as eight points on a couple of occasions, but Clarkson closed the gap to five at the half. A basket from Stephanie Grobe (White River Junction, VT) knotted the game up at 34-34 at the 17:35 mark of the second half, and from that point on the two teams tussled back and forth with neither able to gain much of an advantage. Staten Island held a 59-58 lead with 4:23 remaining, but a 3-pointer from Cara Manfredi (Glastonbury, CT) at the 4:03 mark gave Clarkson a lead it would never relinquish. In the final four minutes, Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) would convert two lay ups and four free throws to account for eight of the Knights final 13 points as they won by double digits.

Loggins finished with 20 points, shooting 8-for-9 from the free throw line, and added 11 rebounds and three steals. Manfredi had a game-high 21 points, going 5-for-12 from beyond the 3-point arc, and also grabbed six rebounds. Grobe shot 6-for-8 from the field, scoring 14 points to go along with her seven boards. For Staten Island, Megan Myhre had a team-high 17 points, while Nikkie Fabozzi and Victoria Crea had 15 and 13 points, respectively.
