Potsdam, NY – A near triple-double by Molly McLaughlin highlighted a balanced effort for Skidmore as the Thoroughbreds ended the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team's seven-game winning streak with an 80-71 decision Tuesday night at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights fell to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play while Skidmore improved to 9-5 overall and 5-0 in league play.

In the early going, despite a few misses in the opening moments, the two teams showed why they are the only remaining unbeaten teams in the Liberty League. Through the first 12 minutes of the game, neither team was able to get much of a lead, and the score was knotted up on eight separate occasions. With Clarkson up by a single point (19-18), Skidmore rattled off nine straight points to take a 27-19 advantage with 5:08 to go, but the Knights responded with seven points in the next minute to climb back within a point. Clarkson was unable to regain the lead, however, as Molly McLaughlin buried back-to-back 3-pointers in the next minute and Skidmore held a solid advantage for the remainder of the half. Brooke Butkovsky (Monroe, CT) sunk a layup with three seconds to go to get Clarkson back within four at the break.

In the second half, Clarkson struggled mightily from the field, scoring just two points in nearly nine minutes of action while Skidmore slowly turned its modest four-point lead, thanks to back-to-back 3-pointers from Lindsey Davis, into a 17-point bulge (53-36). The margin would remain in the teens for the majority of the second half, though Clarkson was able to climb back into the game in the waning moments. Cara Manfredi (Glastonbury, CT) converted a 3-point play with 1:19 to go in the game and also made a 3-pointer at the buzzer, but nine points was as close as Clarkson would get.

Each team had five players finish in double figures. Madison Shea (Clifton Park, NY) scored 14 points and dished out three assists and Stephanie Grobe (White River Junction, VT) added in 13 points for Clarkson. Brooke Butkovsky produced 12 points, Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) had a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds while adding in three steals, and Manfredi scored 10 points.

For Skidmore, McLaughlin had 14 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists, while Davis finished as the team's leading scorer with 15 points. Angela Botiba had 14 points and eight boards, Kelly Donnelly had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Amber Holgate scored 11 points.
