Potsdam, NY - Freshman Devin Sorell sank four key free throws in the final two minutes to give the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team a little extra cushion as they held off Vassar in overtime 78-67 Friday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights improved to 15-5 overall and 8-3 in the Liberty League, while Vassar dropped to 8-12 overall and 3-8 in conference games. Clarkson will take on Bard College and celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, while the Brewers will travel to face St. Lawrence.

Unlike the first game between the two teams when Clarkson jumped out to a 25-2 lead, Vassar was the one that gained the upper edge in the early going. However, a lay up by Katelyn Curtis pushed Clarkson to a three-point advantage (14-11) six minutes into the game and a basket by Stephanie Grobe at 12:32 gave the Knights a five-point edge. However, Vassar went on a 16-4 run to gain a seven-point lead over the next seven minutes and was able to hold off Clarkson in the waning moments for a five-point halftime edge (37-32).

Clarkson took just four minutes in the second half to reclaim the lead and held the advantage for the majority of the period. Vassar had a few moments where they regained the lead, but it appeared as if the Knights would close out the Brewers when Sorell hit free throws to give Clarkson a 62-57 lead with just over 30 seconds remaining. Two free throws by the Brewers and a clutch 3-pointer from Caitlin Drakeley, with 11.2 seconds remaining, tied the game up for the Brewers and send the game to overtime.

In overtime, it was all Clarkson as Ashley Loggins scored on a lay up on the opening possession. Up by just a point (66-65), Cara Manfredi made back-to-back lay ups to give the Knights a five-point lead and Devin Sorell hit four free throws in the final 90 seconds to produce a double-digit win.

Five Knights finished in double figures, led by Loggins, who had 22 points, 17 rebounds and five steals. Stephanie Grobe tossed in 11 points, while Madison Shea, Sorell, and Manfredi each produced 10 points. For Vassar, Ariella Rosenthal tossed in 23 points, but took 23 shots to do it, and also added nine rebounds. Drakeley produced 20 points while Rose Serafini grabbed 13 boards.
