Potsdam, NY - After a rough shooting effort a few days ago at St. Lawrence, the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team certainly found its stroke back at Alumni Gymnasium this weekend, enjoying an 83-47 win against William Smith on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights improved to 14-5 overall and 7-3 in the Liberty League, while the Herons dropped to 3-14 on the season and 2-7 in conference games. Clarkson continues its homestand next weekend when Vassar and Bard will visit Potsdam.

For the second straight day, Clarkson raced out to an early lead by opening the game with a 15-2 run in just five minutes. William Smith would once get the lead into single digits, but the Knights never let up on offense. Cara Manfredi scored 14 points in the first eight minutes before being pulled for a break, but Devin Sorell made up for the offense. The duo finished the half combining for 31 points, including a last second steal and 3-point fling from midcourt that was buried by Sorell as time expired.

The Knights went into the locker room with a 20-point lead (47-27) thanks to a strong shooting effort, going 18-for-33 overall with five makes from beyond the 3-point line. Courtney Chase did her best to keep the Herons in the game, scoring 10 points on 3-for-6 shooting that included a pair of 3-pointers.

Though Clarkson's offensive pace would slow in the second half, the Herons couldn't make a dent in the deficit, making just three of their first 17 shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half as the Knights pushed their lead to the high 20s. After a William Smith timeout couldn't end the Clarkson momentum, the Knights began to run away with the game as the margin stretched into the mid 30s, finally settling at 36 at the buzzer.

Cara Manfredi finished with 27 points, shooting 10-for-18 from the floor and 5-for-9 from beyond the 3-point arc to go along with nine rebounds. Devin Sorell produced her first career 20-point game with 21, making six of her eight attempts from the floor. Stephanie Grobe tossed in 16 points and Alyssia Marsal added 11 points. For William Smith, Chase ended the game with 12 points.
