Schenectady, NY – Second half shooting struggles by the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team allowed Union College to rally from a small deficit at the break as the Golden Knights fell 56-40 in Liberty League action on Friday evening.

The Golden Knights fell to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the Liberty League, while Union improved to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in conference games. Clarkson takes on Ithaca College on Saturday afternoon.

Though Clarkson shot 32.0% in the first half, the Knights enjoyed a one-point lead at the half. However, Clarkson went only 2-for-14 in the third quarter and started the fourth quarter with four misses and three turnovers, falling behind by double figures near the midway point of the final period.

Union led in the early going of the first quarter as Clarkson missed its first seven shots of the game, but the Knights rallied back to take the lead by making four of their final five attempts of the quarter, capped off by a Rachel Marion 3-pointer with 33 seconds remaining in the frame. Union briefly rallied to take the lead near the midway point of the second on an Elly Vaughan layup, but Molly Stewart buried a pair of 3-pointers at the 3:48 and 2:54 mark to put Clarkson back up by four points (22-18). The Knights would finish the half up by just one when Union made a 3-pointer down the stretch.

Stewart recorded 13 points in the first half, going 4-for-5 from the floor with three 3-point field goals. Nicole Conley scored nine points and added five blocks to lead Union in the first 20 minutes.

Clarkson led by as many as four points in the third quarter, but nine straight misses by the Knights allowed Union to take the lead once again. Rachel Marion hit a 3-pointer from the corner with 11 seconds left in the third period to get Clarkson back within two, but that would be as close as Clarkson would get.
