Potsdam, NY – A dominant third quarter from RIT put the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team on its heels for the fourth quarter as the Golden Knights succumbed to the Tigers 56-43 in Liberty League action Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.

The Golden Knights dropped to 7-9 overall and 2-7 in the Liberty League, while RIT remained in first place, improving to 12-3 and 7-2 in conference games. Clarkson will close out its seven-game home stand next weekend when it hosts Bard and Vassar at Alumni Gym.

A 19-2 run in the final 6:20 of the third quarter for RIT turned out to be the difference. With Clarkson up by a single point (30-29), Jessica Glaz hit a 3-pointer to help the Tigers quickly regain the lead, and RIT never looked back, maintaining a double-digit advantage for the final 12 minutes of the game.

Trailing by two in the early going, RIT went on a 9-0 thanks to three 3-point plays, the first coming on a layup and one by Tara Lynch and then the distance 3-pointers from Jessica Glaz and Sabrina Wolfe. Clarkson responded with own run to tie the game back up at 15-15 thanks to a stretch of seven points from Devin Sorell. The tie for the Knights was brief, though, as the Tigers hit a pair of 3-pointers to open the second quarter and rolled out to a 23-15 advantage. The Tigers went cold, however, as Clarkson slowly chipped away and took its first lead since 6-4 with a pair of free throws from Devin Sorell at 1:09. RIT would finish the half with a one-point lead thanks to a jumper from Whitney Kent on its final possession of the quarter.

Devin Sorell led Clarkson with nine points and five rebounds in the first 20 minutes while Tara Lynch scored nine points on 4-for-5 shooting for the Tigers. Clarkson didn't shot particularly well in the first 20 minutes (9-for-32) but made up for the deficiency with eight offensive rebounds.

Although Clarkson edged in front by a point on a Molly Stewart 3-pointer at the 6:40 mark (30-29), RIT would dominate the third period. Following Stewart's 3-pointer, the Tigers ended the quarter on a 19-2 run, shooting 8-for-11 from the floor, including a 3-pointer from Sabrina Wolfe with just eight seconds left in the frame. With a 16-point lead through 30 minutes, RIT was able to limit the Knights' chances for a comeback, with Clarkson shooting just 5-for-18 from the floor (27.8%) in the last period.

Devin Sorell led all scorers with 16 points and also produced six defensive rebounds. Molly Stewart also added nine points and seven boards for the Knights, and Olivia Marshall contributed eight points in 16 minutes. For RIT, Jessica Glaz led the way with 14 points, also contributing five boards and four assists. Tara Lynch added 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals, and Cori Okada dished out five assists in addition to making a pair of steals.
