Rochester, NY – Thirteen second-chance points by the University of Rochester keyed a run in the first half as the Yellowjackets sent the Clarkson University Women's Basketball team to its first loss of the season, 74-57, in the opening round of the Chuck Resler Tournament Friday night.

The Golden Knights fell to 2-1 on the season and the team will play King's College at 3:00 pm on Saturday. Rochester improved to 3-0 and will face Ferrum on Saturday evening in the championship game.

Eight minutes into the first half, a Stephanie Grobe (White River Junction, VT) jumper lifted Clarkson to its largest lead of the game, giving the Knights a 16-12 edge at the 11:54 mark. Another Grobe lay up at 7:49 pushed Clarkson to a 22-19 lead, but Rochester responded with an 11-0 run in the next three minutes, capped by an Emily Lewis lay up to push the Jackets up 30-22. Clarkson would cut the deficit to six on two separate occasions, but another 8-0 run by Rochester pushed its advantage to double figures and only a Devin Sorell (Hannibal, NY) make at the buzzer could halt the run. The two teams nearly mirrored one another in shooting percentage in the first half, but the key for the Yellowjackets was a 31-13 edge in rebounds, which included 11 on the offensive end and led to 13 second-chance points.

In the second half, Rochester pushed its lead to as many as 18 points (48-30, 17:25) with a 16-4 run that overlapped the first and second periods. Clarkson cut 10 points off the margin just a few minutes later when Colleen Daley (Orchard Park, NY) made a short jumper to bring the Knights within single digits, but just a few moments later the advantage returned to double figures and Clarkson would never get as close again.

Ashley Loggins (Albany, NY) came within two rebounds of another double-double, finishing with 19 points, eight boards and three steals while Grobe ended the game with 14 points and four assists. The two players combined to shoot 13-for-25 from the floor, but the rest of the team managed to shoot only 11-for-45. For Rochester, Alexandra Leslie had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Tylar Guerrieri added nine points and nine boards and Mary Kronenwetter nearly matched her with nine points and eight rebounds. Rochester finished with a 59-31 edge on the boards, grabbing 22 offensive rebounds.
