Potsdam, NY – Junior Taylor Collins was seemingly everywhere for the Clarkson University Women's Lacrosse team on Wednesday, as she scored three points, scooped up nine groundballs and caused three turnovers in the Golden Knights 12-5 win over SUNY Potsdam.

The Golden Knights will take on another SUNYAC opponent on Saturday when they travel to face Cortland State.

Things moved a little slow on offense in the early going since it was the first time in a competitive game for both teams, but the Knights found their footing quickly when presented with a player-up opportunity. Freshman Katie Sergeant took advantage for Clarkson's first goal at 24:39 and that first tally seemed to spark the Knights on offense. Clarkson scored again less than a minute later as Collins converted on a pass from Sergeant, and senior Kate Dillon picked up her first goal of the season with help from Abby Collins at 21:02 to give Clarkson a 3-0 lead. Dillon scored once more at 17:33 and Jaid Baytos, who assisted on Dillon's second goal, found the net at 14:17 to give Clarkson a 5-0 edge. From that point on Clarkson was in good position and had more than enough offense to hold off any late charge from the Bears.

Up 6-1 at the break thanks to a 19-5 edge in shots, Clarkson continued to get open looks on the Potsdam cage. Baytos scored at 24:52 in the second half and though Potsdam responded with a goal of its own, Ashley Flick and Taylor Collins each notched goals in the next few minutes to put the Knights up 9-2. The Bears made things a little interesting with two consecutive goals, but by then it was too little too late, and the Knights made sure of it by scoring three goals in the final six minutes to claim the win.

Overall, Clarkson led in shots (31-14) and made the most of its chances with a 20-10 edge in shots on goal. Clarkson also led slightly in groundballs, 27-24.

In addition to her two goals and an assist, Taylor Collins had nine groundballs, caused three turnovers and earned three draw controls for Clarkson. Jaid Baytos led the Knights on offense with four points on three goals and an assist, while both Katie Sergeant and Kate Dillon produced three points with two goals and an assist each. Abby Collins also had a solid all-around effort with a goal, an assist, three groundballs, two caused turnovers, and four draws. Both Ashley Flick and Emma Andrew also each added a goal. Samantha Gladd made three saves in 56-plus minutes to earn the win.

For Potsdam, Murphy Newman and Katie Lapinski each scored three points (two goals, one assist each) while Alyssa Ferenczy helped on defense with five caused turnovers and four groundballs. Potsdam goalkeeper Devan Olschewske made eight stops.
