Clarkson University extended its winning streak to seven games while gaining a key ECAC Hockey road victory and a season-series split with Yale by skating past the Bulldogs 4-2 in New Haven, CT on Friday night.

The Golden Knights used four different goal scorers on the evening and received another standout effort in the crease by junior Jake Kielly (Eden Prairie, MN) to open a four-game road trip in impressive fashion.

Ranked 14/15th in the national polls, the Knights improve to 15-6 overall and hold down fifth place in the ECAC Hockey standings with a 6-3 league mark. The Green and Gold take on Brown tomorrow at Meehan Auditorium in Providence, RI. Faceoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Junior co-captains Nico Sturm (Augsburg, Germany) and Devin Brosseau (St. Lambert, QUE), freshman Josh Dunne (O'Fallon, MO) and junior Haralds Egle (Liepaja, Latvia) supplied the goals and Kielly posted 27 saves as the Green and Gold avenged their lone home loss of the season, a 2-1 defeat to the Bulldogs on December 1.

Yale (8-6-3, 6-3-1), ranked 19th in the country, outshot the Knights 29-19 on their home ice at Ingalls Rink. Clarkson was strong in specialty teams play, going 1-of-3 on the power play and killing off five of the Bulldogs' six man-advantage opportunities.

Yale got the scoring started at 4:29 of the opening stanza when Evan Smith collected a rink-wide pass from Charlie Curti and slid the puck past Kielly on the power play. The goal ended a string of 23 straight opposition power plays killed off by Clarkson. Ironically, the last team to score a power-play goal against the Golden Knights was the Bulldogs back on December 1.

Less than four minutes later, the Green and Gold responded. A take away by junior defenseman Jordan Schneider (Toronto, ONT) quickly turned into an odd-man rush for Clarkson. Egle carried the puck up the right wing and looked to connect with Sturm. The pass missed, however, and Sturm quickly banked the puck off an Eli defender and into the net. The goal was Sturm's 10th of the season.

Clarkson would take a 2-1 lead at 14:50 on the power play when Brosseau scored his seventh of the season. Sophomore defenseman Connor McCarthy (LaSalle, QUE) gathered the puck at the right point and had a free shooting lane to drive the puck on net. Brosseau came off the bench on a line change and no one picked him up. He was able to put the rebound past Yale goaltender Corbin Kaczperski. Sophomore Jack Jacome (Caledon, ONT) earned a secondary assist.

Yale controlled the puck a good bit of the period, out-shooting Clarkson 15-5, but the Knights took the 2-1 lead into intermission.

As they did in the first period, the Bulldogs got an early score, this time to tie up the contest at 2-2. Off a faceoff to the glove side of Kielly, Kevin O'Neil swatted at a puck that hit a Clarkson stick and went end-over-end past Kielly and into the net at 2:33.

The score would not be tied long, however. Dunne intercepted a clearing pass and skated in between the faceoff circles before beating Kaczperski low to the glove side at 4:25. The unassisted score was Dunne's seventh of his rookie campaign and put the Green and Gold up 3-2.

Clarkson increased its' advantage to 4-2 when Egle scored his 10th of the season at 13:20. Sturm took a pass from Schneider on the left wing and skated through the neutral zone and eventually in behind the Bulldog net. Sturm spotted Egle wide open and the right wing deposited the puck short side and low. The score prompted a Yale goaltending change as Sam Tucker took over in net.

Clarkson went into the third period up by the 4-2 lead.

Senior Marly Quince (Sioux Lookout, ONT) scored what appeared to be a short-handed goal early in the third, but the officials ruled the whistle blew prior to the puck going into the net.

Regardless, Clarkson was able to hang on without Yale getting any closer.
