Penfield, NY - Junior Joel Bailey (Boonville, NY) led the Clarkson University Golf team with a two-day score of 167 to lead the Golden Knights to a ninth-place finish at the ECAC Upstate Golf Championship at Midvale Country Club on Sunday afternoon.
Clarkson placed ninth overall with a score of 682. St. John Fisher won the event for the seventh straight year with a score of 631, followed by New York University "A" (645), Rochester (646), Elmira (648), St. Lawrence (659), Potsdam State (662), Stevens (679), Oswego State (679), Clarkson (682), New York University "B" (682), SUNYIT (702), Utica College (714), SUNY Purchase (714), and Keuka College (760).
Bailey shot 81 on day one of the event to lead the Knights, and then was part of a three-way tie among Clarkson golfers, shooting 86 on Sunday. Freshman Rob Wood (Westford, VT) was the second-best Clarkson golfer with a score of 169 (83-86). Junior Nick Triassi (Rochester, NY) shot a 172 (83-89) and classmate Brendan LaFleur (Sandown, NH) sccored 174 (88-86) to round out the team scoring for the Knights. Clarkson's fifth golfer, Rick Triassi (Rochester, NY) tallied a 196 over the two days.
