Lake Placid, NY – Unable to follow up its historic giant slalom win on Wednesday, the Clarkson University Men's Alpine Ski team settled for a 10th place finish in the slalom on Friday afternoon to close out the individual events at the USCSA Nationals at Whiteface Mountain.

Clarkson came in first in the giant slalom by a narrow margin on Wednesday, but found itself nearly 17 seconds off the pace and right in the middle of the pack among the 20 team participants on Friday.

On Wednesday, each of Clarkson's five skiers finished in the top 25 of over 100 participants, but the Golden Knights struggled from the start to repeat the effort. Senior Greg Murray was Clarkson's top finisher, taking 22nd overall with a time of 1:47.30. Murray's first run saw him positioned 12th among the 106 participants, but his second run was about a half second slower and he slipped to 30th in that race. Junior Ryan Riley recovered from a slow first trip that saw him in 70th at the midway point, but he shaved more than eight seconds off in his second run to finish with a time of 2:00.43, good enough for 49th in the standings.

Freshman Thomas Daigle and junior Colden Mrak were not as fortunate as Riley, as each saw considerable time added on their second trips. Mrak was in 28th at the midway point (55.31) but finished with a time of 2:09.34 to come in 61st overall, while Daigle was 41st after the opening run (56.52) only to end up in 50th with a total time of 2:00.71.

Sophomore Andrew Yoviene, who came in second in the giant slalom on Wednesday, was one of 20 skiers to not finish their first run down the mountain on Friday. More than a third of the field did not complete both slalom runs Friday afternoon.
