Ithaca, NY – For the first time in four years, members of the Clarkson University Men’s Swim team were able to break a school-record at the UNYSCSA meet as Stephen Maxwell (Latham, NY), Jon Ketcham (East Aurora, NY), Sam Zagrobelny (East Aurora, NY), and Paul Telesca (Liverpool, NY) combined to create a new mark in the 400 medley relay on the second day of the regional meet.

The Golden Knights men are currently in 11th place among 14 teams with 154 points after 20 events, while the women sit in 14th place out of 15 teams with 83 points.

Maxwell, Ketcham, Zagrobelny, and Telesca shaved more than a second off the previous Clarkson standard, with Telesca finishing off the race in 3:32.17, good enough for sixth place at the meet. The previous time was set 16 years ago.

While the 400 medley relay mark was the only record broken on Thursday, the Knights had several impressive individual showings as well. Sophomore Tyler Nichols (Spencerport, NY) and freshman Nick Short (Endwell, NY) finished back-to-back in the 400 individual medley, placing 16th and 17th overall. Nichols had the better time in the preliminaries to place higher, but it was Short who had the faster time among the two, finishing in 4:20.13.

Freshman Sam Zagrobelny came in 16th place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 53.52 and senior Stephen Maxwell helped the Knights pick up points with a 24th-place finish.

Senior Kimberlee Stillittano (Binghamton, NY) also chipped in on the women’s cause, taking 24th place in the 400 individual medley, ending the finals with a time of 5:05.13.

Also performing well for the women in the, but falling short of the finals, were several swimmers in the 100 butterfly and the 200 freestyle. Senior Jillian Brown (Kenmore, NY) was 29th in 1:03.69, while Jackie Yeaton (Merrimack, NH) and Molly Kelso (Exeter, NH) placed 37th and 42nd, respectively. In the 200 freestyle, four swimmers competed, led by sophomore Kelly Mulvehill (Penfield, NY) in 55th. Deonna Coleman (Derby, NY), Courtney Karszes (Stanley, NY), and Colleen Daly (Manlius, NY) all finished in the 60s in the event.

Joining Zagrobelny and Maxwell in the 100 butterfly were Nate Menapace (Baldwinsville, NY), Liam Sharkey (Malta, NY) and Sam Zwierzchowski (East Amherst, NY), who came in 30th, 34th, and 35th, respectively. The top finisher in the 200 freestyle for the men was sophomore Ray Bailey (Galway, NY), who came in 35th with a time of 1:50.15. Also racing well in the 200 freestyle were Paul Kreppel (Clarance, NY), Alex Trass (Greene, NY), Nick Hens (Liverpool, NY), Steve Cevaer (Ransomville, NY), Paul Telesca, and Travis Derr (Lakeville, CT).

The Knights also earned points in the relay events, with the women claiming 14th in the 200 freestyle and 13th in the 400 medley. The 200 freestyle relay team consisted of Jillian Brown, Abby Luber (Camillus, NY), Deonna Coleman, and Kelly Ludeke (Burnt Hills, NY) and finished in 1:48.15, while the 400 medley relay squad had Luber, Ludeke, Stillittano, and Brown finish with a time of 4:26.03.
