Rochester, NY - A day after ripping 22 hits in the second game of a doubleheader, the Clarkson University Baseball team's offense was quieted in its twinbill against Rochester, falling 2-0 in the opener and 5-3 in the nightcap.

The Golden Knights fell to 10-17 overall and 7-11 in the Liberty League while Rochester improved to 14-15 overall and 9-9 in conference games. Clarkson will host Rensselaer in a pair of doubleheaders next weekend at Jack Phillips Stadium.

Rochester scored all the runs it would need in the top of the first inning of game one as Ethan Sander hit a one-out double and advanced to third on a groundout before coming home on a wild pitch. The Golden Knights nearly tied the score in the bottom of the second as the day's starting pitcher, Greg Jasek (Chittenango, NY), tripled. However, a groundout couldn't force Jasek home to help his own cause and a walk to Nolan Driscoll (Troy, NY) was followed by a double play.

Clarkson had a runner in scoring position with one out or less in the next three innings as well, but the Knights couldn't get the tying run home.

In the top of the sixth, the Yellowjackets picked up another run to make the score 2-0. Sander was hit by a pitch and Josh Ludwig doubled to move him to third. Following an intentional walk, just Jasek's second walk allowed this season, Jake Meyerson lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Sander with his second run of the game.

Jasek was the hard-luck loser, allowing only five hits over seven innings while whiffing eight. John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) was the lone Clarkson player with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3.

In the second game, freshman Ian Castle (East Greenbush, NY) gained the start and allowed just a hit over three innings before being relieved. In the fourth, Rochester scored its first run of the game thanks to a Dan Warren sacrifice fly, but Clarkson tied the score up at 1-1 in bottom half of the fifth when Driscoll drew a one-out walk and was tripled home by Tim Beninati (Schoharie, NY).

Clarkson took the lead in the bottom half of the next frame as David Wixted (Ballston Lake, NY) led off with a single and Bobby Derico (Watervliet, NY) followed with a walk. A two-out single through the left side by Jasek plated the pair and gave the Knights a 3-1 lead.

Unfortunately for Clarkson, Rochester knotted things up when Nolan Schultz singled home a run and Warren drove in another with a sacrifice fly.

The Yellowjackets took the lead in the eighth when the team successfully scored on a double steal and in the ninth Rochester tacked on another run on an RBI groundout from Nate Mulberg.

Tim Beninati was 3-for-4 in the second game for Clarkson, while David Wixted had a pair of hits in four at bats.
