Syracuse, NY – The formula of jumping out to an early lead and holding on for the win failed to work for the Clarkson University Men's Lacrosse team for the first time in 2017 as Nazareth rallied from an early deficit and came away with a 13-8 win Friday night at the Carrier Dome.

The Golden Knights dropped their first game of 2017 and fell to 3-1 on the season, while Nazareth picked up its first win to improve to 1-2.

As they have in all four games this year, the Golden Knights scored first on Friday night as Ryan DaRin and Anthony DiGiovanni each scored in the first six minutes. Nazareth responded with four straight goals between the end of the first and the start of the second quarter, but the Knights came back with three of the final four goals of the half and the two teams were knotted up at 5-5 at the break.

Although the two teams were even or close to even in virtually every category at the break, Nazareth was winning the majority of the faceoffs and the Golden Flyers took advantage of that in the third quarter to take control. Naz scored the first three goals of the third period and pushed its advantage to 8-5 midway through the frame before Clarkson's Scott Dosser ended a 14-minute scoreless drought for the Knights. The Golden Flyers picked up a score in the waning seconds of the period and then tacked on two more goals in the first five minutes of the fourth. Though DaRin scored a man-up goal at 9:26 to somewhat halt Nazareth's momentum, it was just a reprieve as the Golden Flyers scored two more times and ran out the clock on the Knights.

Senior Ryan DaRin scored four times for the Knights, while the rest of the Clarkson offense was limited to one goal apiece. Scott Dosser, Ryan St. Croix, Marcus Lavarnway and Anthony DiGiovanni each recorded a goal, while Brendan Brady and Conor Bartlett each added an assist. On defense, Justin Gibson scooped up three groundballs and caused a pair of turnovers, while Mark Uhlig matched Gibson with three groundballs. Nick Strandholm made 12 saves in the Clarkson crease.

For Nazareth, Seth Delisle nabbed seven groundballs and won 18 of the 25 faceoffs. On offense, Jack Crowley scored four goals while Joe Eiskant had three goals and an assist. Hunter Burdick scored twice and assisted twice, and Jacob Gray scored a goal to go along with two assists. In goal for Nazareth, Alex Winkler made 14 saves for a .636 save percentage in the game.
