Knights split dual meet with St. Michael's

Colchester, VT - Junior Al Catano (Ronkonkoma, NY) and Sam Zagrobelny (East Aurora, NY) each won a pair of events for the Clarkson University Swimming team as the Golden Knights split a dual meet against St. Michael's College on Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Knights' men defeated the Purple Knights 145-86 and the women dropped their matchup 111-51. Clarkson will return to action next weekend at the North Country Invitational held at Maxcy Hall.

Catano won the 200 individual medley in 2:02.85 and followed that victory up with a first-place showing in the 200 backstroke (2:01.23). Zagrobelny won both of the sprint freestyle events, claiming the 50 free in 23.09 seconds and the 100 free in 51.99 seconds. Junior Ray Bailey (Galway, NY) followed his teammate with a victory in the 500 freestyle (5:27.79) and sophomore Nick Short (Endwell, NY) and Kyle Hancock (Essex, VT) each won specialty events, with Short taking the 200 butterfly (2:11.82) and Hancock touching the pad quickly in the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.31.

The Golden Knights also won both of the relays. The 200 medley relay squad of Catano, Jon Ketcham (East Aurora, NY), Short, and Zagrobelny started the day with a victory in 1:42.96, and the 200 freestyle team of Bailey, Chris Bay (Greene, NY), Hancock, and Sam Zwierrzchowski (East Amherst, NY) won with a time of 1:36.93.

On the women's side, junior Kelly Ludeke (Burnt Hills, NY) won the 200 freestyle in 2:10.70 and gained nine points in the 200 breaststroke in 2:48.38. The 200 freestyle relay also picked up 11 points, thanks to Sarah Halstead (Milford, NH), Katrina Smith (Ballston Spa, NY), Abby Luber (Camillus, NY), and Jaclyn Yeaton (Merrimack, NH).
