Rochester, NY - Back in action for the first time since last weekend, the Clarkson University Softball suffered a sweep at the hands of the University of Rochester, falling 8-0 in the opener in six innings and 5-1 in the nightcap in Liberty League action.

The Golden Knights fell to 0-16 overall and 0-4 in the Liberty League, while the Yellowjackets moved to 11-7 overall and 4-0 in conference action. Clarkson will face RIT on Sunday afternoon, looking to pick up its first win of the season.

In the opener, freshman Jamie Bridge (Plymouth, CT) lead off the game with a double, but that was the end of the Golden Knights offense as Rochester pitcher Brittany Grage allowed only a walk over the remainder of the contest. The Yellowjackets picked up a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, when Grage started the frame with a double and came home on a sacrifice fly by Eleni Wechsler. Lauren Muni then delivered a two-out single and came around on an error. The Yellowjackets scored two more in the fourth on a two-out single from Meghan Hennessy and picked up another run in the fifth on a one-out double by Muni that placed Wechsler. Rochester was able to end the game one inning early with an eight-run advantage when two runs scored on wild pitches and Grage doubled home the final run.

Hennessy and Grage each went 2-for-4 while Wechsler and Muni each went 2-for-2 with two runs scored apiece.

In the second game Rochester scored all it would need in the first inning with a single run and then added two runs in both the fourth and fifth, but Jamie Bridge was able to hold the Yellowjackets offense down by pitching a solid six innings. Hennessy hit a one-out single, stole second, stole third, and scored on a Nina Korn single in the first. In the top of the fourth frame, Clarkson knotted the score up at 1-1 when Leanna Hoover (Rochester, NY) reached on an error, stole second and third, and then scampered home on an infield groundout by Tirzah Smith (Tully, NY). Rochester immediately got the lead back in the bottom half of the fourth as Wechsler started the rally with a two-out single and was driven home on a two-run homer by Alyssa Murillo. In the fifth, Tayler Fravel produced a one-out double and Hennessey singled her home and was sent home herself on a single by Korn for a 5-1 edge.

Bridge allowed nine hits and a pair of walks while striking out two over six innings for Clarkson, while Wechsler allowed three hits and an unearned run in seven innings, whiffing eight. Hennessy was 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and Korn was 2-for-4 with two driven in.
