Cape Coral, FL - On the final day of its seven-day, 12-game trip to Florida, the Clarkson University Softball team fell to two different sets of Pioneers, losing to Alfred State 12-6 in the opener and Wisconsin-Platteville 13-0 in the nightcap on Friday at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.

The Golden Knights finished off the spring trip with a record of 0-12, while Alfred State improved to 3-8 and Wisconsin-Platteville moved to 8-6. Clarkson's first home games were scheduled for March 26th, but those contests have been postponed to a yet to be determined date.

In the opener, the offense of both teams were immediately prepared for a slugfest with 14 total runs scored in the first three innings. Clarkson got on the scoreboard first when sophomore Kat Tamburro (Frankfort, NY) delivered a one-out single and junior Lindsey Walsh (Lynn, MA) followed with a single, sending Tamburro to third. Freshman Katie Pelton (Auburn, NH) then lifted a fly ball to left to score the fleet-footed Tamburro for a 1-0 Clarkson lead. Alfred State tallied a pair in the bottom half of the inning, but Clarkson rallied to tie the score 2-2 in the top of the second. Sophomore Tirzah Smith (Tully, NY) singled, stole second and then moved up to third on a fly out, and she finished the circuit when Alycia Short (Norfolk, NY) grounded out to second.

The Pioneers regained the edge in the bottom half of the inning, but Clarkson had its biggest inning in program history in the top of the third, plating four runs. Lisa Ferrucci (Amsterdam, NY) singled and after Tamburro popped out, Clarkson had four consecutive hits. Lindsey Walsh the singled, Pelton followed with a base knock, and Ali Schwenzfeier (East Haddam, CT) singled home a run. Smith then delivered a three-run double to clear the bases and give Clarkson a 6-3 edge. Unfortunately, Alfred State wasn't done either, plating five in the bottom half of the inning. With four more in the bottom of the fifth, Alfred State finished up with a 12-6 win.

Walsh finished 3-for-4 and Smith was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. For Alfred State, the top four hitters combined to go 11-for-12 with seven runs scored as Claire Hartman went 4-for-4 with three runs and Lura O'Keefe was 3-for-4 with six RBIs.

The second game saw the Clarkson offense stall while Wisconsin-Platteville came out swinging. The next version of the Pioneers sent 13 batters to the plate in the first inning and scored seven runs and left the bases loaded. With four more in the top of the second, Wisconsin-Platteville already had enough of a cushion to cruise to the win.

Tamburro singled in the first inning, but was the only Clarkson player to record a hit in the five-inning affair. For Wisconsin-Platteville, MJ Patten was 4-for-4 with two RBIs, Ellyn Goerdt was 3-for-3 with three runs, and Haley Salazar was 3-for-4 with three runs.
