Elmira, NY - With a significant rebounding advantage and a 56-percent shooting performance in the opening 20 minutes, the Clarkson University Men's Basketball team raced out to a 20-point lead at halftime and cruised to a 69-49 victory over Elmira College Sunday evening.

The Golden Knights improved to 4-1 on the season with their third straight victory and will close out the first semester with a pair of home games next week. Elmira remained winless at 0-8.

Clarkson scored on its first possession of the first half, but didn't score for another four minutes until John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) broke the scoreless stretch with a jumper. From there, the Knights poured on the offense and held Elmira on the defensive end to take a 20-point lead at halftime, capped off by a last second lay in from Jerry Coleman (Potsdam, NY), 43-23.

In the second half, Clarkson lead moved to as many as 23 points, and dropped to as few as 15 points, as the Knights held off the Soaring Eagles for the remainder of the contest.

Freshman John Coleman finished with another near double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing nine rebounds, shooting 9-for-11 from the field. Coleman is now shooting better than 72 percent from the floor for the season. Senior Felix Llanos (Queens, NY) had a strong start in the first half, but cooled off in the second 20 minutes, yet still finished with 17 points for the Knights. Marques Charlton (Deer Park, NY) added in nine points, and Tyler Barron (Burlington, VT) worked the role of distributor, contributing eight assists. Josh Keys finished with 14 points to lead Elmira.
