Knights rally for 5th straight win with 4-2 victory at RPI

With a four-goal, third-period rally the Clarkson University Hockey team defeated Rensselaer 4-2 on Big Red Freakout! Night before a sold-out crowd of 4,716 at Houston Field House in Troy, NY on Saturday to continue its second-half surge.

Winners of five straight and unbeaten its last seven games (6-0-1) the Golden Knights improve to 15-10-3 overall and are within striking distance of a top four spot in The Knights have won five straight after defeating RPI 4-2 in Troy, NY on Saturday night.the ECAC Hockey standings with a 7-6-3 league mark. With six games remaining in the regular season, Clarkson is tied for seventh place in the conference, one point out of fourth. The Knights, who have won their last four road games, now return home to Cheel Arena next weekend where they post the best home record in the NCAA at 10-1-2. The Green and Gold host Princeton on Friday and then take on conference frontrunner and number-one ranked Quinnipiac on Saturday.

Clarkson received another balanced effort from its deep, balanced roster with four different goal scorers in the come-from-behind victory over 14th-ranked RPI (14-10-6, 6-4-6). The Green and Gold's sophomore class rose to the occasion with all four goals coming from the Class of 2018. Defenseman Kelly Summers and Sam Vigneault led the way with one goal and one assist apiece. Ben Dalpe and defenseman Terrance Amorosa also scored as Clarkson completed its first weekend sweep in NY's Capital District region since January 2001. The Knights knocked off Union 4-1 in Schenectady on Friday.

Outshot 8-to-4 in the first period, Clarkson lifted its play over the final 40 minutes to outshoot the home team 29-11 over the second and third periods combined for a 33-19 advantage in the game. The Knights went 1-of-2 on the power play and killed off RPI's lone man-advantage opportunity. Senior Greg Lewis, making his 10th consecutive start in the Clarkson crease, posted 17 saves for his ninth win of the year.

After the hard-fought win at Union the night before, the Knights struggled in the early going against the Engineers and fell behind 2-0 early in the second period. Milos Bubela scored both goals for RPI, knocking in rebounds at 14:16 of the first period and at 5:24 of the middle stanza, respectively.

Trailing by two after 40 minutes, Clarkson's offense came to life in the final frame. The Green and Gold scored three times in a span of 4:03 to grab the lead.

Dalpe started the outburst at 8:19, when positioned at the top of the crease he redirected in a shot from the point by Summers for his second goal of the season. Senior Pat Megannety also assisted. Summers came right back 1:36 later when he picked up a rebound in the high slot and wristed in a shot to tie the game at two with his second goal of the season. Blueline partner, freshman Aaron Thow and Vigneault assisted.

Amorosa, who tallied both game-winners last weekend, came through with the deciding goal at 12:22 when he connected on a blast from the top of the right circle with just 22 seconds left in the Knights' second power-play opportunity of the night. Senior Jeff DiNallo and junior Jordan Boucher assisted.

Vigneault sealed the win when his long shot from near his own goal line rimmed around the boards and came to rest in the empty net with 54 seconds remaining. Junior defenseman James de Haas picked up the assist.

Jason Kasdorf made 29 saves for the Engineers, who dropped their third straight game.

Clarkson, which went winless in ECAC play during the 2015 portion of the schedule, is 8-1-1 in its last 10 games, including a 5-0-1 mark against teams ranked in the Top 20.
