Knights race at Hoffman Invitational

Canton, NY – It had been nearly three weeks since the Clarkson University Cross Country team had participated in an event, but the Golden Knights showed little rust on Saturday at the Hoffman Invitational held on the campus of St. Lawrence University.

The Golden Knights' men finished fourth among 10 teams with a score of 145, while the women placed sixth out of eight teams with 183 points.

Dan Fritz (Cicero, NY) paced the Knights entry at the event, coming in 15th out of 114 runners with a time of 26 minutes, 27.77 seconds in the 8,000-meter race. Philip Spinosa (Spencerport, NY) and Adam Merkwan (Meredith, NH) finished back-to-back in the scoring, but came in 37th and 40th, respectively, in the race, finishing approximately four seconds apart with Spinosa logging a time of 27:52.60 and Merkwan coming in at 27:56.73. Rounding out the scoring were Jacob Dowman (Essex, VT), who took 58th in 28:52.78, and John Bell (Marcellus, NY) in 62nd with a time of 29:00.92.

The women's race was a 6,000-meter event and Fiona Recchia (Latham, NY) took the top spot for Clarkson, coming in 41st among 101 runners in 25:53.98. Erin Corrigan (Remsen, NY) placed 49th with a time of 26:15.27 and the final three scoring were tightly bunched as Ashley Forshey (Scotia, NY) came in 54th, Natalie Worley (Williamsville, NY) took 58th, and Chelsea Farinacci (Huntington, NY) crossed the finish line in 61st place.
