Playing its season opener at home for the first time in nine years, the Clarkson University Hockey team could not have asked for a better showing to begin its 25th year at Cheel Arena. The Golden Knights dominated Atlantic Hockey foe Rochester Institute of Technology en route to a 6-0 victory before 2,488 fans to start the 2015-16 campaign.

Thirteen of the Green and Gold's 18 skaters recorded a point, highlighted by a pair of power-play goals from junior A.J. Fossen. Specialty teams play was near perfect and junior Steve Perry was solid in the crease, posting 21 saves to record his seventh career shutout.

The Knights came out strong outshooting RIT 16-6 en route to a 2-0 first-period lead. Fossen opened the scoring with a power-play marker at 7:40, redirecting in a shot from junior defenseman James de Haas. Sophomore blueliner Kelly Summers also assisted.

Clarkson added another power-play tally late in the stanza when captain Paul Geiger connected from the top of the left circle after taking a cross-ice pass from classmate Jeff DiNallo at 19:51. Defenseman Terrance Amorosa started the play to pick up an assist.

Clarkson controlled the middle frame, outshooting RIT 12-5, but could not connect on a pair of power-play opportunities, including a five-minute advantage, to extend its lead.

The Knights put the game away in the final frame with four more goals.

Senior Christian Powers opened the period at 2:43, knocking in a rebound off a shot by Amorosa to make it 3-0. Senior Simon Bessette set up the play with a feed from behind the net.

Fossen followed with his second goal of the night on the man advantage. Positioned at the top of the crease, Fossen tapped in a perfect pass from out of the corner by sophomore Sam Vigneault at 7:08. Junior Troy Josephs also assisted.

At 13:23 sophomore Nic Pierog added another Clarkson goal when his shot from the slot went in under the crossbar. Sophomore Brett Gervais and junior Jordan Boucher assisted.

With less than three minutes to play, Bessette finished off a behind-the-net pass from Pierog to complete the scoring. Freshman Marly Quince also assisted on Bessette's first goal since early December, 2013.

Clarkson outshot RIT 36-21, went 3-of-6 on the power play and killed off all four of the Tigers' man-advantage opportunities.

Perry's biggest save, one for the highlight reel, was when he dove across the crease to make a stop on a shot by RIT's Josh Mitchell nine minutes into the second period.

Along with picking up an assist in his first collegiate game, Quince recorded four block shots in the third period, three coming on a Tiger power-play opportunity.

Clarkson has extended its unbeaten streak over RIT to 12 consecutive games (10-0-2).
