Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - Greg Jasek (Chittenango, NY) and Pete Roma (Endicott, NY) each twirled near complete-game efforts for the Clarkson University Baseball team as the Golden Knights earned a doubleheader sweep of Bard College on Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 11-1 and adding the nightcap to the win column with a 9-3 score at Dutchess Stadium.

The Golden Knights evened their mark overall and the conference at 10-10 and 6-6, respectively, while the Raptors fell to 3-16-1 and 0-10-1 in league games. Clarkson and Bard will play again tomorrow with the Knights serving as the home team five hours from Potsdam.

In the opener, Jasek got all the run support he would need in the first inning as Clarkson scored a pair. David Wixted (Ballston Lake, NY) opened with a single and advanced on a wild pitch before moving to third on a John Coleman (Potsdam, NY) single. Jasek then helped his own cause with an RBI-double and Dan Lenney (Clifton Park, NY) sent Coleman home with a sacrifice fly. Clarkson's run-scoring would be silent until the fifth when the team sent six around the bases with Nolan Driscoll (Troy, NY) delivering the big blow, a bases loaded triple. From that point on, the Knights played defense behind Jasek when necessary, but the sophomore righty was tough, allowing just a pair of hits and striking out 10 to earn his second win of the season. Wixted finished 3-for-4 in the contest with two runs scored and two more driven in while Tim Beninati (Schoharie, NY) also was 2-for-4.

Game two did not start as well for the Knights as the team was scoreless in the first and a pair of errors in the bottom half of the inning allowed the Raptors to pick up three runs. Clarkson slowly battled back with a run in the top half of the second when Bobby Derico (Watervliet, NY) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, but in the fourth inning Clarkson claimed a lead it would never relinquish by tallying five runs. With two outs, a walk and a hit by pitch put runners on for Derico, who doubled in a pair to tie the score. Wixted then scored Derico with a single to give the Knights the lead. Wixted stole second and John Coleman was hit by a pitch to put two on. The duo then executed a double steal and Wixted scored on a wild pitch, while Coleman would have to wait for an RBI-single from Jasek to finish his trip around the bases. Wixted added an RBI-single in the fifth on an infield hit and two more scored in the eight to amount for the final scoring. Pete Roma came within an out of pitching a complete game after the shaky first inning, striking out nine and walking just two in 8.2 innings. Wixted finished 2-for-6 with two RBI and Matt Jenack (Massnea, NY) reached base four times with two hits and two walks.
