Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – The Clarkson University Men's Soccer team earned its first Liberty League victory of the season with a 4-1 triumph over the Bard College Raptors on Friday afternoon.
The Golden Knights improve to 3-9 overall (1-4 Liberty League), and remain on the road to take on the Vassar College Brewers tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 pm.
Senior Kurt Knolle (East Aurora, NY) got the Golden Knights on the board just 3:01 into the contest when he pounced on a turnover in the box and poked it past Bard keeper Daniel Gagne for a 1-0 lead.
In the 23rd minute, Alex Vozzella (Boston, MA) made it 2-0 when he took a bouncing pass from Angelo DiFrancesco (Penfield, NY) and struck a beautiful shot on the full volley that hit the bottom of the crossbar and went in.
Bard (2-14, 0-6 Liberty League) cut the lead in half in the 37th minute when Orson Fry headed in a cross from Tamaki Chiba. It remained 2-1 at halftime, with the Golden Knights holding a slight edge (10-8) in shots.
In the second half with Bard pressing forward to get a potential equalizer, DiFrancesco scored an unassisted goal on a counterattack in the 74th minute, and Tucker Wilcox (Broadalbin, NY) finished the scoring in the 90th minute off a cross from Alex Lewis (Hollywood, FL).
Alex White (Unadilla, NY) made seven saves in the winning effort.
